The Mouse House has renewed its relationship with Starz while Showtime has strengthened its stable with an output deal with DreamWorks Studios.  Showtime’s deal with DreamWorks will provide the pay cabler with up to 35 Disney-distributed titles released between this year and 2015. Disney, meanwhile, announced it has extended its output deal with Starz for another three years. Starz has pay TV rights to all titles released through 2015 by Walt Disney Pictures, Disney-Pixar, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Touchstone Pictures and Hollywood Pictures.

The Showtime-DreamWorks deal has long been in the works, since shortly after Steven Spielberg and Stacey Snider’s reconstituted DreamWorks set up shop with the Mouse last year. Pact was announced earlier this month by Showtime Networks chairman Matthew Blank and Disney-ABC Domestic TV prexy Janice Marinelli.

CBS Corp.-owned Showtime has been in the hunt for new sources of theatrical product ever since it parted ways with Lionsgate, Paramount Pictures and MGM, which joined forces to launch a rival pay TV service, Epix.

“This ups the ante on the visibility of our feature film lineup,” Blank told Daily Variety of the DreamWorks pact. “This is the right number of films from people we like and respect, and we know they’ll do well in the marketplace.”

The guarantee of pay TV coin is an important funding component for any sizable pic producer. The licensing fees are typically structured as a small percentage of a film’s domestic box office, though those formulas have been changing in recent years to give pay TV providers more flexibility to spend less for lesser-performing titles. Pay TV nets typically get access to a title 10 months after its theatrical release for an 18-month window.

Along with DreamWorks, Showtime has pic-licensing pacts with Summit Entertainment, the Weinstein Co., Miramax and its sibling CBS Films unit. The Summit pact has been particularly fruitful, bringing in the “Twilight” franchise as well as Oscar best picture champ “The Hurt Locker.”

Blank noted that the company has cut deals with a number of smaller distributors that will add 20-25 more pics to its menu a year. Showtime had been under some pressure after the split with Par, Lionsgate and MGM to ensure it had a steady stream of feature titles as called for in its contracts with cable and satellite operators.

Among the first titles expected to be released by the new-model DreamWorks is futuristic drama “Real Steel,” starring Hugh Jackman.

The Disney-Starz deal ensures that Starz will have pay TV rights to the next generation of Marvel-branded theatrical product. Disney has been in the pay TV biz with Starz since the Liberty Media-owned service bowed in 1994; its most recent pact would have expired with Mouse House releases through 2012.

Starz was a pioneer in securing broadband exhibition rights as part of its overall pay TV output deals, and the extension with Disney continues to give Starz Internet rights to the pics within the pay TV window. Starz struck a deal in late 2008 with Netflix to offer Web streaming (for a fee) of some of its theatrical titles. There were rumblings a year ago that Disney was unhappy about the exposure of its pics in the Starz-Netflix pact, but the Mouse is not believed to have taken any steps to block the Netflix streaming with the extension of the Starz deal.

“This agreement secures our ability to meet the needs of current and future subscribers in a fast-changing media landscape,” said Starz Entertainment prexy Bill Myers.

Sony Pictures has also signed on with Starz’s in another major output deal.

My Take: There sure does seem to be a lot of wheeling and dealing going on in the movie industry.  Everybody wants to get their fingers in that pie!  I know Netflix is doing great.  I haven’t tried their streaming video yet, I can’t really afford it right now.  But net taxes all over the Internet.  They must have the best Seo company available.

The Internet is buzzing about Megan Barnes as “Public Enemy” in Florida.  Others are joking about her “razor sharp focus” and she drives her car.  However, the 37-year-old was thrust into the limelight for allegedly multitasking while driving.  This has earned her a place on hundreds of websites with her mug shot.

According to a startled Florida Highway Patrol trooper, Barnes was shaving her bikini area while driving south on the famed Overseas Highway when she crashed into the rear of an SUV March 2.

In the police report obtained by ABC News, the trim job was apparently essential because the arresting officer, trooper Gary Dunick, said the Indiana native told him she was heading to Key West to visit her boyfriend.

“She said she was meeting her boyfriend in Key West and wanted to be ready for the visit,” Dunick told the Key West Citizen.

It gets weirder. In order to pay full attention to her sensitive regions, police say Barnes enlisted her ex-husband, Charles Judy, who was riding shotgun, to hold the wheel.  Yes, her ex-husband.

Their tag-team driving went awry when an SUV driving in front of them slowed to turn. Barnes’ 1995 Thunderbird smashed into it. Two of the SUV’s passengers suffered minor injuries, police say. Barnes shouldn’t have been driving that Thunderbird, since she had been convicted the previous day for driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license.  According to the arrest report, it was the sixth time her license had been suspended.

After the accident, Barnes and Judy drove off, police say. The Thunderbird limped a few hundred yards before the couple switched seats. “She jumps in the back seat and he moves over,” Dunick told the Citizen. “It was like the old comedy bit, ‘Who’s on first?’”

But the attempt to claim that Judy, not Barnes, was driving was also doomed. Judy had visible burns on his chest he claimed came from the exploding airbag, but only the passenger side airbag deployed, according to the police report.

Patrol officers say they determined that in addition to this bit of “landscaping” behind the wheel, Barnes was already driving with a suspended license, just one day after she was convicted of driving under the influence.   So Dunick charged Barnes with driving with a revoked license, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident with injuries and driving with no insurance. Judy was not charged.

According to the arrest affidavit, the trooper asked her afterward why she didn’t hit the brakes when she saw the SUV. She answered bluntly, “I told you, I was shaving.”

“If I wasn’t there, I wouldn’t have believed it,” Dunick told the Citizen.

“About 10 years ago, I stopped a guy in the exact same spot… who had three or four syringes sticking out of his arm. It was just surreal and I thought, ‘Nothing will ever beat this.’ Well, this takes it.”

Now, for her apparent adventure with blade in hand, throw in charges of reckless driving, driving with a revoked license, leaving the scene of a crash with injuries, and driving without insurance. The good news, nobody was seriously hurt.

My Take: Can this world get any weirder?  Well, how about Australian souvenirs from France?  Or what about Greece yacht charters in Tahiti.  Yes, I know, I am being ridiculous.  But it just seems to me a little bit ridiculous to shave your bikini area while you are driving.  How stupid is this woman?  And saying she is blonde is no excuse!

And you will never get Australian boomerangs in France unless you get them from a specialty shop.  You also never get a Greece yacht charter in Tahiti; you might get a Tahiti yacht charter.  I just hope she uses organic or natural beauty products, because her mug shot does not look that great.  Maybe she should have just taken a nice long hot bath with natural aromatherapy and then her shaving before she left home.

Melody Morales said she was rejected for a job by a manager at the Times Square restaurant who griped, “You don’t speak white” and “you are ghetto.”  The 21-year-old Latina lovely is the latest woman to sue over working conditions at the Hawaiian Tropic Zone, where employees in skimpy beachwear parade nightly before diners.

“Not to brag, but I look good in a bikini,” Morales said yesterday. “I could have done a perfect job there.”

The suit says Morales went with her mother to the restaurant last March in search of a job. It claims a manager told her to get lost, saying, “I am not going to ruin my business with your Latin accent.”  Morales, who said her dream job is to pour drinks while strutting her stuff in a bikini, returned to the Hawaiian Tropic Zone months later still in pursuit of a position.  Her suits says another manager instantly rejected her, telling her, “We will not hire you because you have a speech problem,” and “You have a Latin accent.”

“It is 100% illegal to discriminate because of where you’re from or because you have an accent,” said her lawyer, Derek Smith. “Melody certainly has the assets for this job.”

Morales, who sports an ample 34-D cup size, said she was appalled.  “They never even looked at me in a bikini,” she whimpered.

A lawyer for the Riese Organization, which operates the Hawaiian Tropic Zone, said the suit, filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, is “without merit.”

“We are proud of the many Latino and Latina employees in our diverse workforce,” said James Rosenzweig.  The restaurant that bills itself as “The Hottest Place on Earth” is facing a $600 million federal lawsuit from four former female workers accusing an ex-boss of sickening sexual antics.

“I believe everything they’re saying,” Morales said.  Morales, who is of mixed Dominican and Puerto Rican background, works at a bikini bar in Westchester County.

“It was kind of like my dream to work at the [Hawaiian Tropic Zone],” she said. “It’s the bikini, I guess.”

The restaurant is spread across three floors and 16,000 square feet. It features a two-story waterfall, a setting that “tantalizes the senses” and menu items such as hung barbecue ribs and crispy chicken lollipops.

On its Web site, the restaurant features pictures of several of its sexy staff, which include a go-go dancer from Russia, a hostess from Nigeria and a bartender from Puerto Rico.  But Morales said the place has no room for someone with her accent.

“I guess they want their girls to speak white,” she said.

Is Melody Morales ‘ too ghetto’ for Hawaiian Tropic Zone? Judge will let the jury decide and the Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Edward Lehner green lighted the discrimination lawsuit by Melody Morales, who charged that she was denied her dream job because she didn’t “speak white.”

A luscious Latina who sued the Hawaiian Tropic Zone will leave it to a jury to decide whether she’s “too ghetto” to sling drinks in a bikini at the infamous eatery.

“I don’t think accent should play any role in service at a restaurant where the waitresses serve drinks and meals in bikinis,” said Derek Smith, a lawyer for the top-heavy former Hooters girl.

Morales, 22, filed the lawsuit against the Times Square restaurant in January after she was twice rejected for a job by managers who did not much care for her “Latin accent.”

“They’re going to see that she speaks very well,” Smith said. “And I intend to depose all of the waitresses who work there because I am interested to see how well they speak.”

Lawyers for the recently reopened Hawaiian Tropic Zone had tried to have Morales’ suit tossed – and they strongly hinted that she was a hooker after her photos appeared on what they called “very filthy” Web sites.

Smith insisted that Morales is no call girl – merely a busty beauty who fantasized about working in a skimpy swimsuit. Morales has boasted that she would have done a “perfect job” because of her ample assets that look good in a bikini.

James Rosenzweig, a lawyer for the Hawaiian Tropic Zone, declined to comment.  The restaurant in the past has touted its “diverse workforce,” saying 40% of its workers are Hispanic.

“It’s apparent that the real reason that a person would go to the Hawaiian Tropic Zone is similar to why someone would go to Hooters,” he said.

It is obvious why patrons go to the restaurant and it is not to listen to the lovely way to speak.  It is to look at the lovelies and sexy swimsuits and to admire them according to Smith.

My Take: When I first read the original article, I could not believe that somebody would team soon or speech discrimination.  However, I suppose it is possible that I did not think it be possible for an accent.  The scenario I could see it being involved in is for someone who is deaf who has learned to speak without hearing.  They sound as if they do have a speech impediment, but that is not a reason to discriminate against them.

I definitely agree with this young woman on getting a NYC discrimination lawyer.  Any time that an employer discriminates against employee or even a potential employee, they should be brought to the mat for it.  Then they should contact the NYC attorney for employee rights to get what is due them.  Otherwise, that same employer could do the same thing to somebody else, which is not right.

I hope that this young lady wins her lawsuit, especially after they tried to frame her by saying that she was a hooker.  As far as I have been able to find out, there is no evidence of that and it definitely leaves them open for defamation of character lawsuit.  She might get pretty darn close to the millions she is suing for.
